1968 Gibson J-50

Vintage 100% all original vintage 1968 Gibson J-50 acoustic flat top guitar. This particular example, serial number 521453, is in MINT all original condition, and includes the original soft case, the original warranty, and the original Gibson inspection hang tag! This super clean & crisp J-50 is in undoubtedly NOS mint condition, and displays the lustrous sheen of a new guitar. For the collector who strives for the best possible examples of great models, look no further, this is the cleanest 60′s J-50 to be offered online in an extremely long time. When you can buy this incredible vintage example for the price of a new one, I feel a justification for a sales pitch is unwarranted, so use your better judgement, because this guitar won’t last long at this price!

This attractive J-50 features; the standard spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck with a very comfortable slim taper profile with factory large frets, 3-in-a-row double-line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with the original buttons, a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, a beautifully intact injection-molded pickguard, a Brazilian rosewood bridge with an adjustable rosewood saddle, original bridge pins, original single strap pin, original truss rod cover and original tuner ferrules… as stated, 100% original down to every last screw.

This era Gibson J-50/J-45 represents the absolute best option for players looking to buy a vintage Gibson acoustic for a price competitive with Gibsn guitars made today. Most definitely filed under the “Best Bang for Your Buck” category, this J-50 has everything you want. The medium/slim neck profile, unlike those made prior to ’59 with a larger chunky “D” shape neck. It also has factory large frets: a feature introduced on most Gibson guitars in 1960. This guitar has a solid wood bridge with an adjustable saddle unlike early ’60s (circa ’63) Gibson acoustics with plastic bridges, or earlier ones without adjustable bridges. Even those who are fortunate enough to own/play a ’40s/’50s Gibson acoustic will find that this era J-50 offers something different and fantastic, which is not necessarily achievable with an earlier guitar. It really is an “apples and oranges” comparison, both of which are great in their own respective way.

This particular guitar sounds particularly great. It is really one of the good ones, with a super even and well-balanced tone that is robust yet sweet. It intonates remarkably well thanks to the very low action, and it is unbelievably easy to play. It is very enjoyable when strumming or finger-picking, and will naturally record particularly well. Having owned approximately 50 vintage Gibson acoustics, many from the late-’50s and early-’60s, I can say with confidence that with respect to tone quality and sound, they do not get better than this!

Cosmetically, this guitar is mint. There is no wear on the guitar. No arm wear, no pick wear, no belt buckle wear, no neck wear, no fret wear, no nothing. The guitar is perfectly solid. The bridge is firmly affixed with no lifting or bellying. There are no drying cracks, pickguard cracks, etc. The guitar’s current solid construction definitely contributes to the sonic superiority. No new guitar, reissue, or luthier-built interpretation can ever reproduce what Gibson perfected. With smooth sparkling highs and rich lows, it’s loud, clear, and balanced. The mids are not too muddy, and are pleasantly focused.

Look at the pics, this is an impressive example, and even if you’re not in the market, take a moment to look at this incredibly well-preserved vintage Gibson J-50, and enjoy!
