1964 Hofner Senator Bass (5144)

1964 Hofner Senator Bass (5144)

1964 Hofner Senator (5144) electric hollowbody bass guitar. This particular example, serial number 1500, is in good original condition. Similar to a Club bass in shape, the Hofner Senator shares most of the same great appointments while boasting a larger 16″ wide frame. Particularly more rare than both Club and Violin basses, the Senator bass is both an extremely great player’s instrument, as well as, a great functional bass for the Hofner collector.

This Hofner Senator bass features:

-”Staple” Nova-Sonic Twin Coil Humbucking Pickup (Type 511)
-Archtop single cutaway design
-German spruce top
-2 Piece book-matched figured maple back
-Lightly figured maple sides
-Maple neck
-Rosewood fingerboard
-Double-bound body with 3-ply binding
-Raised Hofner logo
-Mother of Pearl ‘Dagger’ headstock inlay

Despite being the largest bass of the Hofner line, this Senator weighs a mere 4 lbs 11 oz. While sharing a resemblance to a Harmony H-2, this bass is significantly better in every respect. This bass sounds amazing, and will definitely become your best sounding bass. With more clarity and vibe than a small Violin bass, this instrument creates an array of interesting and dynamic overtones. Do not mistake the above statement for is sounding thin, as anyone who is familiar with the “staple” pickup will assure you it’s one of the fattest tones you can get. As is the case with all great sounding electric guitar and basses, this bass even sounds awesome when played acoustic.

The action is low, and it was recently set up with Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds. The neck is straight and it is very easy to play. The frets have lots of life remaining, and the zero fret creates very accurate intonation.

This is a no breaks and no cracks bass. There is extra glue visible in the seam where the neck and heel meet. The heel cap has been recently replaced with an exact spec repro and is noticeably less faded. The original pickguard is missing, as well as, one of the nail tacks that keeps the tailpiece in place. The tuners are all original aside from the ‘G’ tuner button, which has aged to an odd color, but is the exact same size and spec as the other tuner buttons.
